Coach Dukes comes to South as an assistant football coach and head baseball coach. He has administered successful programs at Bishop Carroll, Word of Life and Friends University. In eight seasons as a head baseball coach, he has compiled a career record of 178-94 winning three state and regional championships, six conference and league titles and six coach of the year awards. He has mentored two NAIA All-Americans and 37 all-conference players as well as eight former assistants who have since become head coaches. As the head football coach at Word of Life, Coach Dukes guided the Fire into the playoffs three straight seasons including the KCAA state finals in 2006. Coach Dukes, is no stranger to the city league. The former quarterback at Northwest is one of the rare individuals to play and coach in the city league. In fact, Coach Dukes who was an all-city player in both football and baseball was the 1999 GWAL baseball coach of the year for Bishop Carroll. In addition to coaching, Dukes was the GM for arena football teams in Wichita and Enid, Oklahoma. He has a Master’s Degree in Education from WSU and is currently the full time sub at South High. Complete Bio Derik Dukes has spent his career in education and sports business. He is a proficient teacher and competent academic advisor familiar with student eligibility, financial aid and degree completion programs. As a high school electives teachers and college placement coordinator, he has helped secure athletic and academic scholarships for hundreds of students. A certified Life Coach, from the Coach Training Alliance, and an education strategist, Derik has a Master’s Degree in Education from Wichita State University and undergraduate degrees in Communications and Health from Newman University. He has instructed classes at Wichita State University, Friends University, Bishop Carroll High School and Word of Life Traditional School. He has trained, advised and coached hundreds of people in customer service, event management, corporate sales and personal wellness. He is one of 13 certified life coaches in Kansas and one of 11,000 worldwide. Derik is an accomplished athletic director and head baseball and football coach, having administered successful programs in high school and college. During his tenure as the athletic director at Word of Life Traditional School, the department experienced tremendous unprecedented growth and development including the construction of a athletic complex that includes a minor league caliber baseball stadium and on campus football field. In addition to coaching, Derik has been the general manager of three professional sports franchises and directed games and events attended by over a million fans and spectators. He helped develop the Wichita Sports Commission and brought arena football to Wichita, Kansas and Enid Oklahoma. He has also planned, coordinated and directed programs, forums and school assemblies featuring the Arthritis Foundation, Kansas Department of Health and Environment, PGA, National Association of Sports Commissions, American Baseball Coaches Association, Indoor Football League, National Indoor Football League, USA Baseball, Texas League, Major Indoor Soccer League, NAIA, Kansas State High School Activities Association, Dick Vitale, Roy Williams, Bill Snyder, former Kansas Governor Bill Graves, and former Wichita Mayor Bob Knight.
